What Are the Main Differences between Shot Blasting Machine and Sandblasting Machine? (2)

1.Shot blasting and sand blasting are used for surface treatment, but it does not mean that only castings are shot blasted.

2. The main function of sand blasting mashine is to remove rust and scale on the surface, such as parts after the heat treatment. However, the role and function of shot blasting mashine are more. It not only removes rust and surface scale, but also improves surface roughness, removes machining burrs of parts, eliminates internal stress of parts, reduces deformation of parts after the heat treatment, and improves surface wear resistance and pressure capacity of parts.

3. There are many processes used for shot blasting, such as casting, forging, treating parts surface after machining, and treating parts surface after the heat treatment.

4. Sand blasting is mainly manual operation, while shot blasting is more automated and semi-automated.

5. The steel shot and iron shot used for shot blasting are not really shots. To be precise, it is a small steel wire or a small steel rod. It only looks like a ball after using it for a while. To put it bluntly, the so-called sandblasted sand is just river sand, which is no different from that used for construction. It is just that the sand used for sandblasting is screened and contains less mud, and its particle size is in a specification. Of course, some industries are also different. For example, shot blasting in the shipbuilding industry uses real steel shots, and the sand used for sandblasting is metal ore (not river sand or quartz sand).

6. Shot and sand

Shots are generally spherical particles without edges, such as steel wire cut shots; sand refers to sand with edges, such as brown corundum, white corundum, and river sand.

7. Spraying and blasting

Spraying uses compressed air as power to spray sand or shots onto the surface of the material to achieve removal and certain roughness. Throwing is a method of using the centrifugal force generated when the shot is rotated at a high speed to impact the surface of the material to achieve removal and a certain roughness.
